Stand Tall

Photo of Tyra Banks courtesy of www.free-extras.comWomen have more power than they realize. I challenge anyone to come up with anything more potently attractive than a happy and confident woman who is comfortable in her own skin and refuses to compromise on her individual quirks. That kind of woman has the world at her feet. She walks into a room and even without words, she radiates. There is just something about her. Like bees to honey, people flock to her, if only to be near the greatness that she is. If that’s not an Everyday Glamour Chick, (E.G.C.), then I don’t know what is!
So what’s her secret? And how can we grab that radiant power for ourselves? Easy. It’s all about body language. For instant confidence, simply stand up straight! It’s cheaper than a shrink and easier than trying to remember your mantra.
But wait! There’s more! You’ll see immediate effects! Simply stand tall and you’ll look longer, leaner, and more elegant. You will appear open and friendly, even when you are shaking in your boots with shyness. The truth is, you will feel more open. People will be drawn to you. Men on the street will get whiplash. Your whole presence will go from black-and-white to technicolor in a matter of seconds.
How to Stand Tall:
Stand with your back to a wall. Imagine a string is pulling your head up. If that doesn’t work you can always imagine you’re walking around in a bikini. That’ll do the trick! You may feel like a robot at first, but I promise you won’t look like one. If you don’t believe me, ask a good friend that you trust, “Do I look like C-3PO?” She’ll roll her eyes and say, “You look elegant.”

Kate, I love this message! And the image is the perfect illustration of the powerful woman. Love it!
"For instant confidence, simply stand up straight! It’s cheaper than a shrink and easier than trying to remember your mantra. " - Spot on! Whenever I'm feeling a little insecure or down, I straighten up and bam, I'm back!
More fabulous advice from New York City's finest - merci!
Thanks, Kellina! Yes, Tyra doesn't bother with slouching and looking cool. She knows the power of perfect posture!! (Love Tyra Banks, don't you?)
AW, thanks, Milla!!! I wish I knew this sooner--that straightening up, opens you up. :)
Posture says it all Kate. Own that room. Now I just gotta keep that in my head...

Oh, I know...how do we remember stand tall?? I guess practice makes perfect. :)
This is perfect...especially for me because I literally have the worst posture the world's ever seen. I'm ten years closer to osteoporosis! I don't think there's an ounce of causality between bad posture and osteoporosis, but I stand taller thinking there is!!
Lovely ... and putting aside politics, very cool that the new head of the IMF is a woman. The thing about a woman standing tall is how comfortable it is.
Lisi, you have to report back to us the dramatic changes that take place after a couple of weeks!!
Madeleine, thank you for this news. I must agree with you. Somehow I can't imagine Ms. Lagarde conducting herself the way the previous IMF head did. I have a feeling that her standing tall comes naturally. ;)
Best compliment I received all week- someone said my posture was perfect! Words to live by, and words drilled into my head my grandmother for years. And you know something, she was right.....usually was!
Noelani, that IS a great compliment!! I am still working on making it a habit. It makes a huge difference!!
Haha I really do try this! I have to think of my old ballet teacher, who asked me to pretend there was string coming out of the centre of my head, and when she pretended to pull, I would straighten up, shoulders back. Good advice!

You look like you took ballet! And I like your teacher's imaginary string trick--you were like her little puppet!! :D
Love it!
Hi Kate, I'm Sandy at Ooh La Frou Frou ... just read about your favorite things over at The Family Table blog and thought I'd stop by and say hello. So nice to meet friends! Have to run now and pretend I'm walking in a bikini ... (loved the post!) ;)

It's true! Everyone looks better when they stand up straight. Now if only I could remember this every second of every day... le sigh. ;)

Hi, Sandy! Thank you so much for stopping by Everyday Glamour! I often admire your Ooh La Frou Frou cards via Twitter. I'm so happy that you liked this one. :)
Hi, Marie! Your blog is so great!
I know, it's hard to remember...:D
Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope to hear from you again!!
I developed breast early which was embarrassing and I would be slouching all the time so my mother used to always remind me to stand up straight. This was unbelievably annoying but it stuck. Now I always always sit and walk straight and see how much it means ( and sometimes annoy people by reminding them not to slouch) :-)))

Ms. M....That is fantastic...you are a shining example of E.G.C.-ness!! :D
